Homemade Natural Deodorant

natural deodorant

Eating a good, clean diet and drinking enough water can really help cut down on body odor, but it’s not perfect. It’s good to have a bit of back up, especially when you are going to be sweating or around a lot of people.

The cleaner I eat, the more I want to use natural based products on my body. The conventional antiperspirants/deodorants are loaded with cancer causing causing aluminum and the formula will actually stick to your skin for weeks if you don’t scrub it off. I’ve tried several of the more natural deodorants that are sold in the stores and I have not been impressed. They are expensive and don’t seem to work well. I even had one Tea Tree Oil deodorant burn me. Ouch!

I have found that coconut oil, baking soda and cornstarch work very well. I prefer a bit of scent added to it and use Young Living Essential Oils to do the job. I like to play with the smells and will use a blend of Tea Tree Oil & Rosemary (great for keeping stinky bacteria under control), Patchouli (extra grounding), Frankincense (super healer) and Tangerine(smells great!)

or if you don’t have any shea butter try this instead:

Directions:

  1. Melt the coconut oil and shea butter in a double boiler over medium heat on the stove just until melted.
  2. Remove from heat and whisk in baking soda, cornstarch and almond oil.
  3. Add in essential oils of your choice. (I add about 1 drops each from the list above for a nice scent.)
  4. Pour into a glass container. (I reused a wide mouth food jar)

This can be kept at room temperature and will last for months. This batch is so big that you can even separate it out and make different scents for you and your friends and family (be sure to reduce the essential oil amounts). Total time to make this is about 15 minutes. (Faster than a trip to the store and back!)

Something I and others have noticed by using natural deodorant is that you end up not sweating as much. Bonus!
